Historian Ilan Pappe will give a talk based on his new book, The Idea of Israel : A History of Power and Knowledge, concerning the operation of Zionist ideology in Israeli society outside the government and military in areas such as the educational system, media, and cinema.
Ilan Pappé is director of the University of Exeter's European Centre for Palestine Studies, and co-director of the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. He was a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa (1984–2007), Director of the Research Institute for Peace at Givat Haviva from 1993 to 2000, and chair of the Emil Touma Institute for Palestinian and Israeli Studies in Haifa (2000–2008). He is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
