UCSC Students Shut Down Registrar, Occupy Hahn Building (part 2, photos)
On March 5, students at UC Santa Cruz rallied in support of UC workers and in continued opposition to the appointment of Janet Napolitano as president of the University of California system. After a short rally at Quarry Plaza, students eventually marched to the Hahn student services building, which they decided to occupy indefinitely.
For a list of the demands the students have made, see part one:

Hey Alex- you might reconsider posting pictures of people's faces doing things the university doesn't like. In 2005 I was seen at a protest and faced judicial proceedings with the school with affected my enrollment, even though I was never charged with a crime. Putting student faces on the internet is just doing their job for them. Thanks for being there, though!
It's not the role of the photojournalist to decide to obscure faces in photographs. A lot of us are proud to display our faces. Some of us don't care one way or another. Some us take steps to avoid being photographed.
When we engage in a demonstration in a publicly accessible space, then we must assume that photographs will be taken of our faces. You can choose to not engage in the demonstration. You can choose to try and cover your face and other ways to identify yourself.
Mask up, or choose a different form of protest.
It's actually really inspiring to see students escalate tactics. We do not need to cover our faces. We need thousands of students openly defying the UC, not wearing masks, and demanding justice for all. We need numbers, not masks.

You're correct about that. Students really need to be taking the media into their own hands. Facebook, a live-stream, and a call into KZSC is not cutting it. On KZSC, the DJs were like, "Ok, students are occupying Hahn to get the word out. I don't really know what the issues are. Maybe we'll have an update. No promises though."
The word out about what?
Obviously most people, even living on campus, do not know why the Hahn Building was occupied. There needs to be a campaign of information, before a direct-action, so people are aware of the issues.

alex always keeps my face out of his published photos. you just need to let him know. he even warns me to get out of a shot if it is a photo he really needs to get.
wearing a mask is legal, as long as you don't do anything illegal. otherwise it adds a misdemeanor to your charges. Penal Code 185. in fact, with the new license tracking photographing going on in Santa Cruz, it might be a good idea to wear a mask everywhere you go, except banks and courtrooms of course.
101.3fm free radio santa cruz has a policy that shows may be interupted for breaking news. (831) 427-3772
you can also get your own show there,if ypu're ready. FRSC is the longest Direct Action in the history of Santa Cruz.
pirate radio is not exactly legal, so you should take ypur mask off in the studio.
