UC Berkeley Students Occupy the Blum Center
UC Berkeley students have taken over the Blum center in protest of the appointment of Janet Napolitano and the regents control of California higher education.
The day began with a rally and march to mark the arrival of Janet Napolitano, the soon to be UC Chancellor with a track record of deporting immigrants and undocumented peoples. The march ended at the Blum center, where students have remained in protest of both Richard Blum as regent and Napolitano as Chancellor.
Here is the list of demands and stated reasons for the action: http://reclaimuc.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-blum-center-takeover-manifesto.html?m=1

The issue is not Napoleon aka Janet Napolitano but the entire capitalist school system. The Regents of UC is a reactionary wealth gang which has no business running any school, but less one at taxpayer expense. UC should be part of the California State University system with open admissions to everyone who graduates from high school. Further, what you learn in the capitalist schools is how to promote capitalism and all the lies that pass for history. UC has always been and still is the rich folks' finishing school. Anyone who is attending school with a loan is very foolish as there are no jobs upon graduation and you will have a lifetime debt. You would gain far more support if you demand that all college education be free for everyone and that the profit motive be abolished so we have a functioning society. For most of us, anything to do with UC is irrelevant.
