JUSTICE COALITION FOR ANDY LOPEZ JOINS ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN

On February 14, 2014, at 6pm MIW will join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE. The campaign will build upon the energy and momentum that was created on February 14, 2013 when one billion activists in 207 countries and territories came together to rise, strike, and dance, in the biggest mass action in human history, to demand an end to violence against women and girls. This year, the focus is on the issue of justice for all survivors and victims of violence, and ending the rampant impunity that prevails globally.

Background: Justice Coalition for Andy Lopez JCAL: This is a group of independent organizations and individuals working together to achieve justice for the killing of Andy Lopez by Sonoma County Sheriff Deputy Erick Gelhaus, and also to affect systemic changes that will put an end to police brutality and human rights violations in Sonoma County.

The JCAL is demanding the end of Police and All Violence against women, mother's, and youth of color. This action is recognition that we cannot end violence against women without looking at the intersection of poverty, racism, and war, the plunder of the environment, capitalism, imperialism, and patriarchy. ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE is a call to women, men, and youth around the world to gather safely on 14 February 2014 outside places where they are entitled to justice – court houses, police stations, government offices, schools, work places, sites of injustice, homes, or simply community gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not.

All men, women, and youth are invited to join the JCAL "Mother's” In White- Victory over Violence Spiral and Action. Wear WHITE and accentuate with Power Pink & Grounding Gold Ribbons and/or Bows. Bring your drums or percussion instruments too.

Background 1 Billion Rising: One Billion Rising was the biggest mass action in human history. This is the vision of Eve Ensler, author and activist. The campaign began as a call to action based on the staggering UN statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.
