“Rosa Luxemburg” is a 1986 West German drama film directed by Margarethe von Trotta. It was entered into the 1986 Cannes Film Festival where Barbara Sukowa won the award for Best Actress. Margarethe von Trotta, also directed the recent film “Hannah Arendt” and numerous others. Barbara Sukowa (who also played Hannah Arendt) stars as Rosa Luxemburg. Rosa's protest of WW I, led to her imprisonment. Two months after being released from prison at the end of the WW I, Rosa Luxemburg was assassinated in Berlin on the 15th January in 1919. Rosa Luxemburg was a leading Marxist theorist, economist, philosopher, and a revolutionary socialist. This is an incredibly good and accurate characterization of Rosa's life, letters, and times.
