Neurotic New York comedian Alvy Singer falls in love with the ditzy Annie Hall. The director co-stars as Alvy Singer, who tries to figure out the reasons for the failure of his relationship with the film's eponymous female lead, played by Diane Keaton. Allen has described the film as "a major turning point".
Along with the 1977 Academy Award for Best Picture, Annie Hall won Oscars for Allen as Best Director, with Marshall Brickman for Best Original Screenplay and Dianne Keaton for Best Actress. Often listed among the greatest film comedies, it ranks 31st on AFI's list of the top feature films in American cinema.
