In celebration of this season of peace Santa Cruz Food Not Bombs invites the community to join them for a free vegan dinner, live music and pleasant conversations outside the Downtown Post Office. The public is welcome to help cook on Christmas morning starting at 9:00 AM at the Front Street Kitchen, 504A Front Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

Food Not Bombs co-founder Keith McHenry will participate in the Santa Cruz celebration. He reports that many Food Not Bombs groups will be sharing vegan meals on Christmas this year responding to the increased need across the United States because of new cuts in food stamps and extreme reduction of access to food during the holiday season.

A free vegan Christmas meal will be offered on Christmas Day at 2PM in front of the downtown Santa Cruz Post Office. Brought to you by Santa Cruz Food Not Bombs and FNB founder Keith McHenry.

Food Not Bombs founder Keith McHenry was in Santa Cruz last week to give a presentation at Santa Cruz's Resource Center for Nonviolence. When he heard that no free Christmas meal was planned this year in downtown Santa Cruz, he decided to hang out and organize one. "We were told that the meal was not happening at the Vets hall this year and I started hearing from people in other cities saying that their usual Christmas meals were also not happening. It was kind of shocking," said McHenry. "So, we had a meeting with the local Santa Cruz Food Not Bombs and decided to organize a meal." Mc Henry says they're planning on feeding up to one thousand people at the December 25th meal. McHenry spoke with me while collecting donations of food and flowers at the Saturday Farmers Market. "The enthusiasm of everybody who wants to contribute is just beyond comprehension," he said.

Cooking and food preparation will happen at the Front Street kitchen on Tuesday, December 24th from 2PM to 9PM and Wednesday, December 25th beginning at 9AM. To donate food or volunteer to help, call: 575-770-3377

Christmas dinner will be served on Wednesday, December 25th at 2PM at the downtown Post Office, 850 Front Street. There will also be live music to accompany the vegan meal. Contact Santa Cruz Food Not Bombs for more information: http://santacruzfoodnotbombs.org/ ---- 831-515-8234

My sister Pat Colby offered to bake homemade cookies and help serve at the SC FNB Holiday Meal dessert table. She hopes someone else will bring hot cocoa because she doesn't have the ingredients nor a large enough container for that.

I ask SC FNB to contact my sister at 831.419.1129 to discuss facilitating this. She is also poor — if FNB would help provide the ingredients for the cookies, she would greatly appreciate that.

I hope SC FNB takes up my sister's offer. She makes delicious cookies. She would like to participate in SC FNB. She wants homeless people to get a nice holiday treat they otherwise might not get. They deserve delicious homemade cookies and hot cocoa just like housed people celebrate the Christmas holiday season with.

If SC FNB can't reach my sister directly, contact me and I will pass your correspondence to her.

Cheers,
John Cohen
