12/27 SF Solidarity Action For Striking Korea Railway Workers Fighting Privatization

Stop Mass Firings And Union Busting Of South Korean Railway Workers

Speakout At San Francisco Korean Consulate
December 27, 2013 Friday 12:00 Noon
3500 Clay St at corner of Laurel St. San Francisco, CA 94118

8,565 Korail workers have been suspended and their union offices raided because of their strike action
against privatization which began on December 9, 2013. This is not the first attack by the Korean
government on the labor movement. Teachers unions have been threatened with being banned and
workers have been sued personally for going on strike causing personal bankruptcy and suicides.
The Transport Workers Solidarity Committee TWSC has initiated the call for a labor/community
delegation to go to the Korean Consulate in San Francisco and submit a statement opposing the
suspension of Korea Rail Workers, the attack on their union and in support of their struggle against
privatization which also threatens transit workers and public workers in the United States including
the ongoing attack on BART ATU 1555, SEIU 1021, AFSCME 3993 and ATU 192 AC Transit workers.

This attack was directly connected to international companies like Veolia who are privatizing transit
services around the world and the efforts to attack the right to strike.

We urge all transportation workers, public workers, all trade unionists and human rights activists to
join us in the action in solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters in Korea and against the action
of the Korean Railroad corporation (KORAIL) supported by the Korean government.

This rally is also endorsed by the United Public Workers For Action http://www.upwa.info

This is a major struggle not only for Korean but all of organized labor. The Park Geun-hye Administration is following in the foot steps of her father who was a the military dictator of South Korea who was eventually killed by his own intelligence branch because his actions were delaying South Korean development. Now the daughter sees the time and need to attempt to destroy the trade unions much as any fascist would do so in the attempt to destroy the organizations of the working class and make it easier for finance capital to control and exploit the masses. We must not forget that the U.S. Government and military are four square in support of this ruthless government. The U.S. imperialist investment in the country and their desire for a southern flank on China is demanded by imperialism to try and contain the most dynamic country in the world.

All out in support of the fighting Korean workers. Victory to the KRWU & KCTU!
