From 2–3pm Jeff Kelley will facilitate a reinvention of the late Allan Kaprow’s groundbreaking 1959 performance “18 Happenings in 6 Parts.” The happening sets a framework around social relations and allows participants to meet and connect with many new people.
Kelley, who is Kaprow’s biographer, will lead participants in a discussion and video presentation about Kaprow and the significance of the happening. Afterward, participants will receive an instructional score and should plan to re-engage with the piece again over the weekend.
At 3pm join artist Phil Ross and local writer, curator, and art historian Terri Cohn for a special discussion and podcast recording on Fluxus, environmentalism, and mushrooms. Ross, driven by a life-long interest in biology, specializes in sculptural and architectural works from plants and fungi. During the talk tea will be brewed for the audience to enjoy from a portion of Ross’ exhibited artwork, a table made entirely of Chinese medicinal mushrooms.
