Give your heart to San Francisco and celebrate the 50-year legacy of unconditional love at the GLIDE Annual Holiday Festival: Celebrate50 on Wednesday, December 4 at the historic San Francisco War Memorial Opera House.
With an all-star line-up featuring Dr. Maya Angelou - one of the most renowned and influential voices of our time; Valerie Simpson - of the powerhouse Motown songwriting/production team Ashford & Simpson; Judith Hill - vocal stylist, virtuosic pianist and “The Voice” 2013 top-eight finalist; Tom Johnston lead singer and guitarist from the legendary Doobie Brothers; San Jose Taiko and more to be announced. The evening will feature music and storytelling that honors the 50-year anniversary of co-founders Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani at GLIDE and their mission to change the world. Emceed by Bay Area radio host and San Francisco Giants announcer Renel Brooks-Moon, the evening’s honorary co-chairs include Dr. Maya Angelou, Pam and Larry Baer, Richard Blum, Senator Dianne Feinstein and Robin Williams.
In 1963, Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani started a revolution of sorts from GLIDE Church on the corner of Ellis and Taylor, in the midst of one of San Francisco’s toughest neighborhoods. Their partnership and dedication launched a movement that was characterized by unconditional love and radical inclusivity. One by one, they changed the lives of San Francisco’s poorest and disenfranchised by offering meals, housing, healthcare, treatment and, above all, spiritual inspiration. Janice and Cecil taught the community how to address the issues of poverty, homelessness, racism and homophobia head-on by demonstrating the spirit of generosity and acceptance. In doing so, GLIDE has helped transform San Francisco into a beacon of tolerance and justice.
Doors open for the GLIDE Annual Holiday Festival at 6pm for the 7pm program followed by a post-performance reception until 10pm. All individual tickets are available through SFOpera.com beginning September 20th. Individual tickets range from $65-$250. VIP tickets and sponsorships range from $500 to $150,000 through GLIDE.org.
