Family of Andy Lopez Files Lawsuit Against Deputy Erick Gelhaus and County of Sonoma
On November 4, the parents of Andy Lopez, Sujay and Rodrigo Lopez, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in San Francisco (see PDF) against deputy Erick Gelhaus and the County of Sonoma.
Gelhaus killed 13-year-old Andy Lopez on October 22, saying he thought the boy was carrying a rifle. Seconds later, Andy lay dead with a toy gun after Gelhaus shot him multiple times.
The lawsuit seeks to establish the facts surrounding the killing and asserts Andy's civil rights were violated when Gelhaus killed him without cause or provocation.
The family is represented by Arnoldo Casillas of Casillas, Moreno and Associates, based in Montebello, California.
