2014 California Gubernatorial Candidate Demands Indictment of Santa Rosa Deputy
2014 California gubernatorial candidate, Cindy Sheehan, joins the demand for 48-year-old Deputy Sheriff, Erick Gelhaus, to be immediately terminated, arrested, and swiftly indicted for the murder of 13-year-old Andy Lopez.
On October 22, 2013, Andy Lopez was gunned-down by Gelhaus who fired eight shots after stopping the boy who was carrying an “airsoft” replica rifle. Lopez was shot seven times and died at the scene. Candidate Sheehan feels the so-called, Law Enforcement Bill of Rights, has allowed crime and corruption to continue while affording special privileges and protections that ordinary citizens do not have. She – and others, believe this special treatment has created an atmosphere of pervasive brutality without accountability and Sheehan favors the implementation of citizen review boards for oversight purposes of local Police forces as well as psychological testing during the law enforcement employment application process, especially when the applicant is a returning combat veteran as was Deputy Sheriff Gelhaus.
