Celebrate San Francisco’s Senior Community
Friday, October 11
What: The Village Project and the Bayview Y will present 3nd annual, “A Senior Moment”, on Friday, October 11, at Westbay Conference Center. Senior community members who have given their time and dedication to serving their communities will be recognized. This year’s honorees are Karen & Greg Johnson, from Marcus Books; Ms. Robin Bill, Director of the Western Addition Senior Center; Dr. Caesar Churchwell, African American Chamber of Commerce; and Ms. Irene Dillard, Administrator, Booker T. Washington Community Center. District 5 Supervisor, London Breed will join the celebration and present these outstanding seniors with certificates of honor. After the awards presentations at 7 pm, guests will satisfy their palates with a delectable dinner, followed by some “down home” blues, featuring Maestro Curtis and the All Stars Blues Band. DJ, “Mr. C” will spin oldies - but goodies from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s for a night of dancing. Join us for “A Senior Prom for the 50 +” and enjoy some good blues, tantalizing food, dancing, no host bar and plenty of fun.

8 pm: Performance: Maestro Curtis & the All Stars Blues Band

Community partners are The Fillmore Center Plaza, Episcopal Charities, Bi-Rite Markets, Bruno’s, Yoshi’s, Africana Studies at San Francisco State University, The Jewish Community High School of the Bay, Episcopal Senior Communities, Teri’s Creation & Boutique, La Boulange Bakery, The Fillmore Farmers Market, Western Addition Family Resource Center, Planet Fillmore Communications, Gussie’s Chicken & Waffles, St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, St. Mary’s of the Virgin Episcopal Church, Western Addition Senior Center, Bayview/Hunters Point Multipurpose Senior Services, MoMagic, Renaissance Parents of Success, LaBoulange Bakery Cheap Pete’s Frame Factory Outlet, Charlie’s Pharmacy, and The Village Project Advisory Board . This community event is funded by a grant from the Dept. of Public Health.
Adrian Williams is Executive Director and founder of the Village Project, a service organization focusing on education and cultural enrichment for youth and their families in the Western Addition. The Village Project produces family/community events, including, most recently, Grilling in the MO’ blues concert/bar-b-q held on June 22nd at Hamilton Rec. Center and our upcoming 8th annual Kwanzaa Celebration (Dec. 26 – Jan 1), along with Mardi Gras San Francisco Style/ Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore to be held on March 4th.
NOTE: The Village Project’s free after school enrichment program is underway. The program site is located at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 2097 Turk Street. Program hours are from 2 pm to 6 pm, Monday – Friday for youth 6 to 14 years old.
