Veterans For Peace
with Occupy's Pirate Mike
Panel discussion with Q & A and film: "Battlefield of the Mind"
An examination of veterans' homelessness and the struggle of PTSD
Information, discussion & community! Monday Night Forum!!
Occupy Forum is an opportunity for open and respectful dialogue on all sides of these critically important issues!
As citizens rally over the upcoming ten days to send the message to the President and Congress that launching cruise missiles against Syria is not an option, Veterans For Peace’s Pirate Mike (Michael Clift) presents “Battlefield of the Mind” with Q&A and discussion at OccupyForum.
Veterans For Peace is a global organization of Military Veterans and allies collectively building a culture of peace by using their experiences and lifting their voices. Veterans For Peace inform the public of the true causes of war and the enormous costs of wars, with an obligation to heal the wounds of wars. Their network is comprised of over 140 chapters worldwide whose work includes educating the public, advocating for a dismantling of the war economy, providing services that assist veterans and victims of war, and most significantly, working to end all wars.
VFP was founded in 1985 by 10 U.S. veterans in response to the global nuclear arms race and U.S. military interventions in Central America. It grew to more than 8,000 members in the buildup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 with veteran and associate members in every U.S. state and several countries, with more than 120 chapters across the nation.
“Battlefield of the Mind”, a film called “the most powerful documentary of the decade,” is a full-length documentary that tells the raw and tragic details of what life is like as an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran. Many veterans suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and among them are those whose lives have fallen apart and have become homeless as a result.
Pirate Mike of Occupy San Francisco and Veterans for Peace is a political activist and artist engaged in Veterans’ advocacy and the research and exposure of Establishment corruption. Pirate will help us understand the struggles of veterans of all eras and classes, and validate the conviction that our government must be restrained and war abolished as an instrument of national policy.
