Despite all the building going on in San Francisco, rents stay high. Why? We of the The Commons SF argue it has a lot to do with why average wages (not those driven by the tech sector) don't keep pace with housing rents.
What's the alternative for the working man or woman to working for somebody else? Sure, it's starting a business of her/his own, only the land prices of San Francisco eat up so much of the earned income. Meanwhile, the mere owner of land in San Francisco hauls in income not so much from the buildings he owns, but from the value of the land upon which those buildings stand.
Come to The Commons SF clubhouse for a free supper and a short workshop introducing the concept of taxing land values to smithereens while reducing taxes on the working person.
The "No Wall on the waterfront (8 Washington)" campaign will be present to illustrate how the privilege in owning land is incrementally obliterating the charm of San Francisco.
Good Food, Good Education, Fine Music!
