PASSENGER ALERT!!
FARES GOING UP! -- TRANSIT WORKERS UNDER ATTACK!
Recently bus drivers, mechanics, service and clerical workers in ATU Local 192 resoundingly rejected, 576-257, another takeaway contract from our employer, AC Transit. At the same time we would like to extend our hand to yours, knowing that AC Transit plans to raise fares again and reduce your quality of life. We pledge to fight the fare increase and, with your help, have a fair contract soon.
*Like most working people, management is trying to make things worse for us: attacks on our pay, benefits, and working conditions. We have not had a wage increase equal to the Cost of Living in 12 years.
*In 2010, not only were our wages frozen for 3 years, but our take home pay was cut an average of 10% to pay for benefits, reduced overtime pay and holidays. Yet the cost to live in the Bay area rose 7.1%. Our pay is $4-$5 less than other Bay Area Transit Agencies.
*After inflation and medical costs, the rejected contract resulted in a loss – worse for lower-paid janitors, service employees and new drivers. We fight for future workers, too
*We want sufficient running time on our routes, to increase on-time performance and perform pre-trip inspections of our buses to insure the public safety.
*To prevent injuries to our legs, backs, and necks, we need decent Meal and Rest breaks
*We need cleaner restrooms and adequate time to use them.
HIGHER FARES FOR LESS SERVICE – NO WAY!!!
*AC Transit has also attacked the riders as well. Increased fares over the years, implemented service cuts, less frequency and horrible on-time performance to many routes because of less running time.
*AC Transit management proposes to raise cash fares another 15¢ to $2.25 and, worst of all, raise the 31-day pass for youth, seniors, and the disabled from $20 to $26.50. We oppose these fare increases and support bringing back the unlimited ride transfer, the day pass and a weekly pass.
RALLY! WED AUG 28–4PM --14TH & BROADWAY MARCH TO AC HQ – 1600 FRANKLIN – 5PM
