Close Guantanamo. Release Bradley Manning. Hands off Edward Snowden.

There is a price to telling the truth, and must be shared by all who have knowledge of the crimes of our government. The stakes, life imprisonment or death, couldn’t be higher.

Bring banners and signs, friends and co-workers, your messages and your voice. Constant and public showings of people standing up and speaking out are needed, make a difference, and are the responsibility of us all.

Close Guantanamo. Release Bradley Manning. Hands off Edward Snowden.

Truth has the power to reverse the fascist direction of American society, the murderous, unjust and illegitimate occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan; the global “war of terror” of torture, rendition and spying; and the culture of bigotry, intolerance and greed.

Despite best efforts by agents of the Obama administration to suppress the reality of these crimes, people of conscience continue to take extraordinary steps to confront the lie that they are powerless to stop crimes against their persons and against humanity.

We reject Senator Feinstein’s conclusion after her “fact finding” tour of Guantanamo that the 166 prisoners held at the U.S. prison camp are being treated “safely and respectfully.” In fact dozens of the prisoners are being force-fed – tortured -- in violation of international law. Feinstein’s delegation statement had not a single word to even acknowledge the massive hunger strike that was the trigger for her “visit” in the first place.

We rebuke her vilification of truth seeker Edward Snowden, who Feinstein claims has committed “an act of treason.”
People may choose what they want to see, and often go to great lengths to avoid leaving their confort zones. But once the genie is out of the bottle -- when we see the lives of prisoners and whistleblowers alike jeopardized to protect the machinations of state terror -- we have the responsibility to support, even emulate, courageous souls like Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden who speak truth to power and look to the people to bring real change and justice.
