Workshop on Managing Family Forests in California
At the workshop you will:
*Learn the value of developing a forest management plan for your property
*Determine the objectives that are possible for forest land management
*Learn about forest ecology and forest management for your area
*Learn about the importance of working with Registered Professional Foresters
*Find out about state and federal programs to help defer the cost of developing management plans.
This workshop is meant to complement the e-learning module on this same topic (see: http://www.ucanr.edu/forestplan). Participants should complete the on-line course, and come prepared for more detailed follow-through and to get questions answered from UC Cooperative Extension forestry staff, and other Registered Professional Foresters. The location, in Berkeley, is designed to attract absentee forest landowners.
Agenda:
9:30 AM – Registration, coffee
10:00 - Overview of California forests, forest landowners, role of management
10:45 – Developing goals and objectives for forestland
11:15 – Get to know your forest – overview of forest ecology, silviculture and management
12:00 PM – Lunch
12:45 – Connecting with an RPF – Role of a forester
1:30 – Cost share programs, management plan assistance
2:15 – Open exchange of ideas, questions
3:00 – Adjourn
