In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, the Middle East Children's Alliance proudly presents world-renowned political analyst, author and activist Noam Chomsky, with special guest Holly Near and the Peace Becomes You Band!
Noam will speak about "Palestinian Hopes, Regional Turmoil."
Voted the "world's top public intellectual" in a 2005 Global Intellectuals poll, Chomsky is best known for his legendary critiques of U.S. foreign policy as well as of mainstream mass media. He has authored over 100 books and a plethora of articles, and has been awarded honorary degrees from universities worldwide. A 2006 New Statesman magazine poll voted him seventh in the list of "Heroes of our time." "I never was aware of any other option but to question everything" - Noam Chomsky.
Holly Near is a magnificent singer, songwriter and activist whose newest release is "Peace Becomes You," and she performs with her band. She has been named a MS. Magazine Woman of the Year and has performed with Joan Baez, Harry Belafonte, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Mercedes Sosa, Pete Seeger, Bonnie Raitt, Inti-Illimani, and Ronnie Gilbert.
Tickets range from $12 to $200; for info, http://www.mecaforpeace.org, 510-548-0542. There is a private post-event reception with Noam Chomsky for $100 and $200 ticket holders. All proceeds go to the Middle East Children's Alliance's work with Palestinian children.
