Please come and write letters to Marie Mason on the eve of her 51st birthday!
on Friday, Jan. 25, 6 pm at the Holdout
Marie Mason was part of the "Green Scare" sweep of indictments and arrests of activists associated with Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front direct actions. Marie was sentenced in 2009 to nearly 22 years in prison for two acts of property destruction, the longest of any Green Scare defendant. She has been in prison since 2009, and is now in a particularly harsh Texas prison.
Marie is a loving mother of two and has been an activist for over 20 years who worked for years with Earth First! and the IWW. She is from a generation of radicals who worked to link the environmental and labor movements by stitching together groups like EF! and the IWW.
Marie is also a musician, artist and writer. Some of her art and poems are on her support website: SupportMarieMason.org.
The Holdout hosts letter-writing to prisoners nights on a regular basis. There are events focussed on writing to Marie around her birthday this year that are happening around the country and world. Karen Pickett from Earth First! will give a brief update on Marie during the evening.
