Join us this Thursday for a livestream of the People's Bailout, and an open discussion about debt as a platform for direct action and mutual aid in the Bay Area and beyond. The Strike Debt initiative is a broad, long-term effort to encourage debt resistance and ultimately debt refusal. This Thursday, there is a one-time event - The Rolling Jubilee - that forms a small part of this long-term mission:
The Rolling Jubilee aims to leverage the debt collection system as a tool for direct action and mutual aid. We buy defaulted debt for pennies on the dollar, just as debt collectors would, but instead of attempting to collect it, we abolish it. This program launches on Thursday November 15th with a The People’s Bailout, a live “telethon” event in NYC – where the goal is to raise $50,000, every penny of which will go toward abolishing more than $1,000,000 of defaulted medical debt.
Join us this Thursday at the Niebyl Proctor Library in Oakland at 5pm for a livestream of this event, distribution of the Debt Resistors Operations Manual, and an open discussion about the potentials and perils of debt as a platform and tactic.
