With featured speaker: Pierre LaBossiere, Haiti Action Committee
Haiti has paid an exorbitant price for having “dared” to be the first people to successfully rebel against slavery. The earthquake of January 12, 2010 crushed a country already deeply impoverished as a result of two centuries of destructive, foreign intervention and exploitation.
A large, international solidarity movement sprang up following the 2010 earthquake. In its forefront were medical missions, first and foremost that of Cuba. The film examines Cuba’s medical and other social development contributions to Haiti before and after the earthquake.
What forms of cooperation have developed in Haiti and with what results? Squeezed by an international system of “humanitarian aid” and an “Open for business” philosophy for reconstruction by large, international governments, what does the future hold for post-earthquake Haiti? (from Canada Haiti Action Network) 2012, 41 min.
