Take Back the Night Healing Arts Festival
Greetings Wonderful People!
Join Veteran Artists and the San Francisco Art Community as we sing, perform poetry and story-telling, dance, and display art to "empower and honor" those who have gone through military sexual trauma, sexual assault, rape, domestic violence and have survived and thrived, on Saturday, October 13, 2012, 11:30 am-7:30 pm, at the Veterans Building, 401 Van Ness Ave, 2nd floor. This event is sponsored by American Legion Post 315, Veterans for Peace Chapter 69, Veterans Art Guild, and Veterans Media Center San Francisco.
We gather to raise awareness about sexual violence and to support the survivors in their healing process. There will be both military veteran and non-veteran artists, from the San Francisco Bay Area, an inspiring array of divine spirit women/goddess altars from 6 continents will be displayed, as well as beautiful innovative visual art. In addition, you will enjoy holistic healing activities throughout the day including yoga, qigong, and belly-dancing, as well as informational booths by San Francisco Women Against Rape, Women's Inc., Protect Our Defenders, StoryCorps, homeopathic and mental health therapists. The day will culminate with a dynamic panel of speakers and live performances of Dance Brigade, Al-hambra Tribal Dance Troupe, Mama Coalt artivist, poets and much more.
Lastly, a Take Back the Night walk will start 6:30 pm, ending at the Civic Center Plaza in a spiral candle-light vigil honoring those who have lost their lives and those who have survived. An $1:50 donation is suggested for each candle. People of all ages, races, religions, backgrounds and genders are welcome and encouraged to attend this FREE event. Light refreshments will be served. Join with us in unity as together, we all work towards a violence-free world. United, we can stop the violence! This is a Clean and Sober, Hate Free Event!
