San Francisco Solidarity: Fighting the Keystone XL Pipeline in Texas
Solidarity Event & Fundraiser for the Tar Sands Blockade
Since the spring, climate activists have teamed up Texas landowners to fight the southern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline being built from Cushing, OK to Port Arthur, TX. A diverse and unusual coalition has formed in the woods of East Texas to use non-violent direct action to stop this awful project (imagine Earth First! teaming up with the Tea Party).
Since August, activists have used a variety of blockades to delay the construction of the pipeline. Multiple actions have occurred on destruction sites. For over two weeks, a daring tree-sit has taken place stopping construction in it's tracks.
TransCanada has responded with eminent domain against landowners and lawsuits against any that oppose them. Law enforcement has responded with violence, Tasers, pepper spray and elevated charges against activists.
Now environmental activists from all over the continent are heading to Texas to join the Tar Sands Blockade. And we want to help them. Members of Rising Tide North America in the Bay Area are organizing a solidarity event and fundraiser to help provide material and financial support for our comrades in the piney woods of Texas.
Event to include:
-Reportback and panel on the Tar Sands Blockade with climate activists working in solidarity with them.
-Amazing videos from Texas
-Video call-in with folks from the Tar Sands Blockade
-Snacks, booze.
