No to Shoebox Housing!
Tuesday, September 18, 10 AM
SF City Hall Steps
Our community is being threatened by a legislation that will allow developers to build dramatically reduced living units (shoebox housing).
These changes will benefit developers who want to squeeze in more high cost units into our neighborhoods and then call it “affordable housing” because the units will cost them less to make. But the developers will charge whatever the market can bear.
We say NO to the shoebox legislation because:
*** SF has yet to meet its SF Housing Element plan of prioritizing affordable family housing units and yet creating housing for the new techies in the neighborhood seems to be first on the agenda.
*** Fewer families in San Francisco means a less family-friendly city and less funds for our public schools.
*** Shoebox housing will reduce the minimal land that the City has which could be used for REAL affordable housing. • This type of development could possibly be catastrophic to our neighborhood, displacing low-income families, singles and existing residents.
For more Information or How to get involve, please contact: Raymond Castillo (415-202-5690, leadorganizer [at] somcan.org ) or contact Angelica Cabande (415-202-5688, acabande [at] somcan.org).
**WANT TO SEE WHAT THESE UNITS LOOK LIKE? Check out SOMCAN's Mock Unit demonstration and get a free hot dog! Friday, September 14th from 12:00 noon to 5:00pm at SOMCAN office: 1070 Howard St. (at 7th), SF
