March Begins: 12:30pm ● Peace Rally: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
Marching to protest gang and domestic violence in our community of Watsonville. Hosted by Watsonville Peace & Unity Coalition
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH
The Peace and Unity March has been an annual event since 1994 when the families of victims and our local community came together to organize an event to speak out against violence in the streets in South Santa Cruz County. With the increase of violence that has happened in Santa Cruz County in the last few years, it is critical to help promote and sustain events like ours. It is all our responsibility to make our community a safer place.
Today, the march is still organized by local youth, local community groups and the growing number of families who have lost loved ones to violence. We are also working with the City of Watsonville to make the march a permanent event, co-sponsored by the City Council.
We also hope you can contribute a donation to support the march. We are in need of cash donations to rent tables and chairs, pay the permit fees and purchase materials for the signs.
We also need food for the morning Peace and Unity Ceremony and for after the march. We are requesting: coffee, pan dulce, tacos or burritos, canned or bottled drinks, water and flowers for alters. A non-profit tax ID can be provided for any monetary contributions.
We greatly appreciate your interest and support of the 18th Annual Peace and Unity March!
