Urban Tilth and Richmond Residents Hold CHEVRON Responsible

Community Press Conference TODAY, 5 PM

Richmond, CA. -- Urban Tilth, a Richmond resident-run and operated urban Agriculture non-profit that runs 11 different school and community gardens in Richmond, will hold a Community Press Conference, TODAY, August 7, 2012.


When: 5:00 pm

Where: Civic Center Plaza Richmond, California


The purpose of this press conference will be to hold Chevron accountable for the release of a myriad of dangerous contaminants into the air, as well as the potential loss of thousands of pounds of food grown by local school children and residents, intended to help alleviate problems of food scarcity.

The Community Press Conference will include a mass dumping of our potentially contaminated food, personal stories from youth and long time community gardeners who have worked for years to grow healthy soil in the shadow of this corporate giant, only to have those efforts destroyed in one night.

Speakers will include:

- Doria Robinson, Coronado neighborhood resident and Executive Director Urban Tilth
- Kelli Barram, North and East neighborhood resident and Founder of Washington Elementary School garden in Pt. Richmond
- Sherman Dean, Coronado neighborhood resident and Project Manager for the Edible Forest Gardner on the Richmond Greenway
- Bienvenida Meza, North Richmond resident and 20 year gardener and Garden Manager at Verde Elementary Partnership Garden
- Adam Boisvert, Richmond Annex neighborhood resident and Co-teacher and Project Manager for Richmond High Urban Agriculture and American Food Systems class
- Giovanna Velazquez, North and East neighborhood resident (grew up in Iron Triangle) and Project Assistant at AdamsCrest Farm
- Teresa Jimenez, San Pablo resident and Project Lead for the Wanlass Park Garden Project
- Jeff Rutland, Iron Triangle neighborhood resident and Project Manager for the Faith Ministries Garden Project
