Reform and/or Revolution: Understanding Our Political Differences
Monday, July 2, 2012 - 6:00pm
Forum
with Don’t Just Click There
Can the current system be fixed? Should it be? Or is it necessary to replace it? The relationship between reform and revolution has been the subject of a longstanding critical debate over the direction of political movements. Is there a possible synthesis, that takes advantage of some of the benefits of reform — like improving conditions today — while bringing us closer to a radical transformation of the political and economic structures? A clearer sense of our differences in political orientation and strategic goals — as progressives, socialists, anarchists, communists, and otherwise unspecified leftists — might help us work together more effectively. This discussion is an opportunity to think about how we see the realistic possibilities, the ultimate ends, and the necessary means of social change. Where are we as individuals, as a community, and as a movement?
This forum is organized by Don't Just Click There, an affinity group whose creative interventions have graced many Occupy protests in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
