Mobilize to Lakeview Elementary!
Come Support Neighborhood Schools and Stand for Public Education!
All day long, and Rally at 4pm, Monday, June 18
In protest of school closures and the privatization of our school district, for the past 4 days, parents, teachers, students and community members have been sitting in at one of the closed schools - Lakeview Elementary - and today re-opened the school's doors for the "People's School for Public Education" social justice summer program. Now OUSD police are trying to shut us down. But we aren't going anywhere.
At 9am this morning, Monday, 6-18, OUSD police came and put up Stay Away notices staing that, "Safe, healthy and Supportive Schools Require Good Order and Peaceful Conduct. Notice: Willful Interference with the Good Order of a School is a Misdemeanor".
We say: There is nothing "Safe, healthy or supportive" about a CLOSED school!
We demand that Superintendent Tony Smith Re-open the schools or Resign!
The police have left and at 10am we Re-Opened the doors of Lakeview Elementary for The People's School for Public Education. We are holding class inside with some students and invite other students, families, parents, teachers and community to join us. We will have class from 9am to 3pm today.
