Important Message From Community Television Of Santa Cruz County!
Posted on June 15, 2012
Dear Members,
CTV is having a very important election. At its heart, the reason for the vote is to modify the organization so the Board of Directors is empowered to make changes without a vote of the members. Community Television has approximately 300 members. Typically less than 60 members vote in any election. Because organizational changes take a vote of the majority of all members, and they don't all vote, the ability of the Board to be nimble, act on opportunities, and move the organization forward is lost.
The County of Santa Cruz has expressed concerns over CTV's long term viability. Changing our current governance structure seems to be necessary for the County to have confidence enough to renew CTV's contract when it expires in 2013.
We are asking for you to vote "for" the changes in the voting rights of members. This would give us the chance to explore options like the merger with CMAP and potentially many others. A "for" vote does not mean that we will definitely merge with any organization, it simply gives the Board the capacity to govern more effectively, and show the County that we are serious about CTV's future.
We encourage you to come to our informational meeting on Monday June 18 at 6pm at CTV offices at 816 Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz. We implore you to cast your ballot by 5pm on June 25th. If you have friends who are members, encourage them to vote as well. This is a turning point for Community Television and you hold its future in your hands.
