The Mayor of Berkeley is proposing a November 2012 ballot initiative to outlaw sitting in the commercial districts in Berkeley - Shattuck and Telegraph. The City Council will vote on Tuesday 6/12/12 at their meeting at 7 pm on whether to put the measure on the ballot. This is our chance to say NO to laws that target homeless people, youth, and other vulnerable people and subject them to the cycle of on the streets-arrest-warrants-incarceration-on the streets. Stand up for the right to sit down in public spaces! Ask the Mayor and the city council members to back off this regressive, wrong-headed law. Send emails if you can't come in person on 6/12: lmaio [at] cityofberkeley.info, dmoore [at] cityofberkeley.info, Worthington [at] cityofberkeley.info, jarreguin [at] cityofberkeley.info, swengraf [at] cityofberkeley.info, gwozniak [at] cityofberkeley.info, lcapitelli [at] cityofberkeley.info, manderson [at] cityofberkeley.info They need to hear from you! Even if you don't live in Berkeley.
