A defining aspect of the actions in "The Battle for Seattle" was the successful use of affinity groups and other consensus based forms of organizing. Starhawk's experience in teaching and participating in this form of direct democracy scans decades and continents. Please join us for an in-depth exploration of how to move from individualism to collaboration, and from hierarchy to affinity based groups where all of our talents and skills can be put to their greatest use.
Starhawk is a veteran of progressive movements from anti-war, to anti-nukes, to Occupy; she is also one of the most respected voices in modern earth-based spirituality. She is the author of twelve books, including "The Spiral Dance" and the ecotopian novel, "The Fifth Sacred Thing", about a future San Francisco based on direct democracy, permaculture, and an ethic of non-violence. She has just released "The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups", which draws on her decades of experience to explain how groups can successfully harness members' passions and skills by understanding group dynamics, communication, and collective decision making.
