City Council member Patricia Kernighan, District 2, has brought a proposal to City Council that will ban "tools of violence" at protests. The way this proposed ordinance is written, any and everything can be deemed a "tool of violence" by the police and used as a pretext for an unconstitutional arrest including water bottles, protest signs, mobility devices and camera monopods.
Welcome to the police state.
Stop state repression of free speech.
Are you serious about making change in the city of Oakland? It's time to step up our game. The more they clamp down on us, the more we must stand up for ourselves.
Bring pots and pans to bang on and your favorite "tool of violence." That can be anything, a drumstick, a pool noodle, a carpenter's pencil, a bamboo protest sign handle, a wooden spoon, a baby's bottle.
