Supporters of Right to Vote on Desal Turn in Petitions at Santa Cruz City Hall
Over the last few months, the Right to Vote on Desal Coalition gathered 8,800 signatures in favor of putting the decision of whether to build a water desalination plant in the City of Santa Cruz to a vote. On May 29 community members rallied at City Hall and delivered the petitions to the City Clerk.
Several thousand more signatures than were required were collected, and the mood at City Hall was jubilant. The next step will be for voters to decide if they want to spend $100 million dollars on a desalination plant to be built on the westside of Santa Cruz, which is currently undergoing the process of environmental review.

Read about the innovations being used in the Pacific to conserve water. Let this be an example for Santa Cruz.
