80 injured as Palestinians remember villages displaced in 1948 Arab-Israeli War
The event marks the expulsion of nearly a million Palestinians, while their villages were destroyed.
Representatives of Israeli Arabs have called for a general strike and to visit the site of Arab villages displaced after 1948.
President Mahmoud Abbas said in a speech marking the anniversary "We will remain on our land .. like our olive trees."
In occupied East Jerusalem , clashes broke out in the early morning between police and stone-throwing demonstrators in the east neighborhood of Issawiya.
In the occupied West bank, Over 80 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli forces near Ramallah. Medics said 63 Palestinians were injured outside Ofer prison and 21 were hurt at Qalandiya as Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters.
Israeli soldiers arrested a number of Palestinian and international activists and used force to break up demonstrations across the occupied West Bank.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said forces used riot dispersal means at protesters hurling rocks.
In Gaza City, thousands of demonstrators from all factions headed to UN Headquarters carrying Palestinian flags.
Hamas lawmaker Musheer al-Masri told protesters that the refugee issue is a political matter of choice arising from the occupation of Palestine, and the just solution to this case can't occur without the refugees regain their homes and property in Palestine.
He also recalled Britain's historic role in the Nakba and accused the US of complicity in continuing the tragedy by its repeated vetoes of resolutions in the UN.
The Hamas movement in Gaza has affirmed its "commitment to the right of return as an individual and collective right of the Palestinian people, who do not fall into disuse." Hamas has warned against "the continued operations of Jerusalm's Judaization", stating that "the al-Aqsa Mosque is already at risk.

Fatah stressed "its commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their towns, villages, houses and land, the release of detainees and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem its capital."
According to Ynet news, In Jordan, the Muslim Brotherhood movement are planning a Nakba Day march. A similar event is planned in Cairo's Tahrir Square.
Moreover, the PLO's research center released its annual census of Palestinians worldwide. Palestinians worldwide numbered 11.2 million, with 4.2 million living in the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip and 1.37 million living within the Green Line. Some five million Palestinians live across the Arab world and 630,000 live in various European countries and the United States.
In 1948, David Ben Gurion, first Israeli prime minister of Israel, once said that “the old (refugees) will die and the young will forget.” Now, in 2012 we say to all Israelis that we will never forget Palestine and our right to return back to it. No right will be lost as long as someone is running after it. We are very sure that we will be back to Palestine one day either sooner or later.
