18 year old high school senior Alan Blueford, was shot and killed by OPD at midnight on May 6th in East Oakland. Alan was a senior at Skyline high school and was going to graduate in June 2012. After watching the boxing fight Alan and two friends was on 90th and Birch. Two policeman were driving by with their lights off. They approached Alan his two friends. Alan ran down birch street and died due to three shots from OPD. After those three shots, a fourth shot was heard. OPD sponsored "witnesses" said the "suspect" was shooting at OPD and “believed the young men had a concealed weapon.”
Later OPD admitted via their website that the officer shot himself. The other two friends were placed in custody for 6 hours and OPD took 2 hours to talk to the Blueford family. OPD still has not released the name of the officer responsible for the murder after the family requested it.
This is another case of state sponsored racist murder, following the incident of Oscar Grant and Travon Martin.
