Eyewitness reportback: The 2012 elections in El Salvador

After having won a decisive victory over the right-wing in 2009 with the election of Mauricio Funes, the Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN) had opened up the possibility of furthering deepening the social revolutions in Central and Latin America. After 11 years of civil war and 20 years after the signing of the peace accords that brought that conflict to an end, the FMLN has continued to struggle for the liberation of El Salvador. The struggle to win the municipal and senate elections in 2012 were seen as the stepping-stone towards winning what will likely be a highly-contested presidential election in 2014.

Join PSL-Sacramento for an eyewitness account of the elections held in El Salvador on March 11th to discuss the role of the FMLN before and during the elections and how the role of the FMLN relates to the larger Central American region.

Después de haber ganado una victoria decisiva contra la derecha en el 2009 con la elección de Mauricio Funes, el Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) abrió la posibilidad de profundizar las revoluciones sociales en América Central y más allá.

Después de 11 años de guerra civil y 20 años después de firmar los acuerdos de paz que puso fin a ese conflicto, el FMLN ha continuado luchando para la liberación de El Salvador. La lucha para ganar las elecciones municipales y departamentales del 2012 se consideraban un paso para adelante en ganar lo que por seguro será una elección presidencial contendida en el 2014.

Únase con nosotros para un testimonio de primera de las elecciones que ocurrieron en El Salvador el 11 de marzo para discutir el papel del FMLN antes y durante las elecciones y como el papel del FMLN se relaciona con Centro América en general.
