8 AM Arraignment for Isaac "Lyrical I" Collins, Santa Cruz activist, who staffed the Information Tent in front of the Courthouse on Water St. before sheriff's deputies destroyed it.
Isaac is charged with felony possession of marijuana for sale--the only person so charged from the huge 4-20 event that happens every year up at UCSC in the Great Meadow.
Isaac is African-American, outspoken, and in jail on $5000 bail at the moment.
Check the court calendar to see where he'll be escorted in--in chains and handcuffs. Yes, folks, this really is Santa Cruz 2012
No, the drug war is far from over. Not to mention the war against African-Americans and Occupy Santa Cruz activists.
9 a.m. HUFF (Homeless United for Friendship & Freedom) meeting in the "American Cafe"--the overpriced D.A.-ridden cafeteria in the basement of the County Building. We'll be discussing
...May 1st protests.
..Working with Food Not Bombs or setting up a regular meal ourselves as a homeless gathering event to document harassment and property seizure
....Support against anti-homeless laws in Venice, CA and Denver, Colorado
...Securing information on police officers who are regularly harassing homeless people downtown...
...Info about and solidarity with police ticketing crackdown after the closing of the Armory...
...Nessa's "amplified sound" case coming up on Friday in Badnews Baskett's courtroom...
...Latest news on SCPD use of "tosic gases"
10 AM Dept. 6 Judge Burdick makes a ruling on a Pitchess motion by Cameron Lauredean's attorney Alexis Briggs. Cameron is one of the SC 11.
This motion concerns an attempt to examine in chambers the complaints against Officer Winston to see if the judge will release the contact info of anyone who complained about him in the past on the issue of credibility (i.e. lying or error). The point is to find defense witnesses to challenge Winston's testimony at trial.
10 AM Dept. 6 Main Event. Burdick hears final arguments in the Preliminary Examination for Cameron, Ed Rector, Grant Wilson, and Angel. Burdick indicated Monday at the afternoon hearing that he was having a hard time with conspiracy-happy D.A. Rebekah Young and her "evidence".
More about this case even made its way into the commercial media.
