Hell and Back Again By Danfung Dennis
What does it mean to lead men in war? What does it mean to come home — injured physically and psychologically — and build a life anew? In Hell and Back Again two overlapping narratives are intercut — the life of a Marine at war on the front, and the life of the same Marine in recovery at home — creating both a dreamlike quality and a strikingly realistic depiction of how Marines experience this war.
Filmed by award-winning journalist Danfung Dennis, embedded with the U.S. Marines Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, the film aims to show how the men and women on the ground are affected on the front lines and the struggles they face returning home. A panel discussion will follow to talk about the film, as well as connect veterans and veteran families with local resources and support services.
