Pleich Punches Back--Radio Address on Crackdown Against Occupy Santa Cruz and the Homeless
Date:
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Time:
7:45 PM
-
8:30 PM
Event Type:
Radio Broadcast
Organizer/Author:
SSteve Pleich (posted by Norse)
Location Details:
Radio Station KZSC at 88.1 FM (or http://www.kzsc.org/listen/ on line).
KZSC's "Talkabout" radio show. John Sandage will grill Pleich (rhymes with "h") on his involvement with the Conspiracy to Restore Justice in Santa Cruz.
(As of yet, there's actually no such formal group, but there should be and if there were I'm sure Pleich would be a member.)
Pleitch was sued by the city attorney and the Coonerty City Council as it moved to shut down the OSC campground back in November, eventually creating 100-200 homeless refugees without shelter. Mayor Don Lane has not apologized or spoken out against this wholesale attack on homeless people. Pleich attended several of Lane's recent Civic Auditorium open-to-the-public classes on homelessness.
Pleich is also on the Board of Directors of the ACLU, is active in the anti-De Sal movement, and has supported the move to stop abusive police action against undocumented residents.
Pleich is an outspoken opponent of the anti-homeless 11 PM to 8:30 AM Sleeping Ban, founder of the Homeless Legal Assistance Project, and a perennial city council candidate. He is uniquely accessible and spends much of his time doing needle exchange and suicide prevention.
Pleich testified eloquently as an expert witness in the Gary Johnson case last week--where Johnson was found guilty of 4 counts of "illegal lodging" for sleeping on a park bench in front of the courthouse with a sign reading "Sleep is Not a Crime".
Listen to him yourself on the radio.
