FIGHT BACK! An emergency event benefiting the legal defense fund of 2 Indymedia journalists...
This Friday, March 30, there will be an emergency benefit show for the legal defense fund of Bradley Stuart Allen and Alex Darocy, Santa Cruz Indymedia journalists on trial for felony conspiracy charges due to the fact that they entered a vacant Wells Fargo building repurposed by members of Occupy Santa Cruz for use as a community center and TOOK PICTURES!

This is blatant repression and an intimidation tactic used against journalists who dared to cover the Occupy protests from a perspective that doesn't tow the party line of corporate interests. From the letter to Santa Cruz District Attorney Bob Lee: "It is unfair to promote one journalistic viewpoint over another by deterring independent journalists from closely reporting news and events as they happen."
At the event organized by San Diego Indymedia (http://sandiego.indymedia.org), there will be: an Indian dinner served for a $5 suggested donation, homebrewed beer, pomelo-tequila mixed drinks, a screening of the film End Civ (http://www.endciv.com) and a performance by Elektra Thunderbunny.
Here's the tentative schedule:
630 pm Indian dinner and homebrewed beer will begin to be served
7 pm Screening of End Civ film
8:30 pm Elektra Thunderbunny / Woody Nightshade

Sure, Alex Darocy is a journalist and is unfairly being charged, but so are the other 9 defendants who're longtime activists.
No one in the group committed vandalism nor did they conspire to trespass.
I agree that the journalists shouldn't be charged in this case but neither should the others.

Luck to Alex with his benefit. Thumbs up to Pat--I agree completely with his demand that all charges be dropped.
Outside the hearing for Alex and Bradley, yesterday which continued this abusive process, I circulated the following flier.
We followed up with a march to D.A. Bob Lee's office demanding charges be dropped against. 15 of us demanded D.A. Bob Lee or one of his reps speak to us about the issue, specifically the rumor that Lee intended to recharge the two with the felony vandalism and felony conspiracy to commit vandalism charges. The receptionist went and hid in the back office. A D.A. detective refused to give us any information. They covered the window with black cloth in an ironic gesture of non-transparency.
Our next event demanding a dropping of charges and supporting the Right to Exist for Poor and Homeless folks as well "Food is a Right Not A Privilege" as well as solidarity with actions in Fresno and San Francisco involving Re-Occupy actions is April 1st 1:30 PM at the Santa Cruz Town Clock.
