Terror’s Advocate’ examines the career of the enigmatic Jacques Vergès (1925- ), the Parisian based attorney of French Father and Vietnamese Mother. He represented members of Algeria's FLN, Palestine's FPLP, the Khmer Rouge, Carlos and associates, Klaus Barbie, and other revolutionaries and outcasts.
Archival footage, news articles, and photographs mix with contemporary interviews of Vergès, friends, associates, and historians. Vergès's marriage to Djamila Bouhared, his courtroom methods, his disappearance from 1970 to 1978, and the roots of his radicalism. Throughout, Vergès remains playful and charming, with a soupçon of arrogance. The film suggests Vergès's anti-colonial nature is at his center. What convictions guide the moral mind of Jacques Vergès? Director Barbet Schroeder takes us down history's darkest paths in his attempt to illuminate the mystery behind this man and begs us to ponder the adage: ‘One man terrorist is another man freedom fighter.’
Presentation by Hai-Ho of TriValley Peace Group who will discuss how one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter'.
Note: Defending the right of every accused (even a Nazi war criminal) to a fair trial and to defense by an attorney does not imply political support for their actions.
Suggested Donation $5-10 for food
Vietnamese food will be served
