Starting February 27th, 2002, the Indian state of Gujarat witnessed the systematic murder and displacements of thousands of people in horrific sectarian violence that engulfed the entire state. The viciousness and barbarism that marked the Gujarat pogrom of 2002 including the burning alive of hundreds of people, and brutal sexual violence against women, make the Gujarat riots one of the worst human rights violations India has seen since independence.
There will be a Candle Light Vigil to observe the 10th anniversary of the anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat, India and to highlight the continued sufferings of the 2002 victims. Coalition Against Genocide (CAG) is made up of a spectrum of organizations in the United States and Canada that have come together in response to the Gujarat genocide to demand accountability and justice. Leaders from various communities will address the gathering and show solidarity in standing up for justice. For more information please visit CAG website at http://coalitionagainstgenocide.org/
