Berkeley Police fumbles in a murder
Berkeley police claim that they could not respond to what turned out to be a murder last Saturday in the Berkeley hills because they were too busy keeping track of the "Fuck the Police" march. The problem with this is not only is an entire police force is disabled over a freedom of speech and assembly march but the murder call came in at 8.45 pm when we have not even left Oscar Grant Plaza in downtown Oakland.
Berkeley police department (BPD) claim that they could not respond to what turned out to be a murder last Saturday in the Berkeley hills because they were too busy keeping track of the "Fuck the Police" march. The problem with this is not only is an entire police force is disabled over a freedom of speech and assembly march but the murder call came in at 8.45 pm when we have not even left Oscar Grant Plaza in downtown Oakland. Furthermore we did not reach the border of Berkeley until about 9.45 pm where there were no police in sight of the march. About 10 pm we did encounter two police cars at the corner of Ashby and Telegraph following a ambulance (probably carrying the victim of the crime). We reach the International House at about 10.45 pm with no further sight of Berkeley police but around 11.30 pm we saw three black (BPD) cars with four officers a piece drive by the International House. What is our police department so concentrated on putting down dissent that they put the general population in harms way in more ways than one.
