The Social Justice Symposium is an exciting free event organized by students at the U.C. Berkeley School of Social Welfare. The Symposium is a student-led effort that evolved from a deep-seated commitment among students to place social justice at the center of their education, and create a space for learning and action outside of the classroom. This year’s event marks the Sixth Annual Social Justice Symposium and will be on held Saturday, February 4th, 2012. Following the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the day is an opportunity for students, practitioners, community organizers, activists and other community members to learn from one another and collectively honor Dr. King’s memory as a champion of social justice. Our objectives are threefold:
1. To engage participants in a process to raise awareness, build knowledge and reflect;
2. To develop the practical skills to further a sustainable and action-oriented movement for social justice;
3. To foster an environment in which participants can network, discuss, and share strategies to work toward social change.
