FORMER LISTENERS OF KGO RADIO FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Former Listeners of KGO Radio Stage Second Protest of Format Change by Cumulus Media
On Friday, December 30, 2011 at 5:00 pm listeners upset by the firings and format change at KGO radio will be protesting the changes at the KGO Studios. The protest will be held at 900 Front Street in San Francisco. Protesters will hold a candlelight vigil and will collect canned food donations for the Bayview-Hunter's Point YMCA Food Pantry. The food donations are being made in honor of Ray Taliaferro, legendary bay area broadcaster who was fired on December 1 along with other well known radio personalities at KGO. Mr. Taliaferro was born and raised in the Hunter's Point neighborhood and had worked at KGO radio for decades.
The December 1, 2011 firings by Cumulus Media sends the message that large corporations do not care about progressive and free media in America. Former Listeners of KGO radio have banded together on Facebook and Twitter to send the message to Cumulus and other media monopolies that this is not OK with us. Nearly 5000 people have joined the online campaign. (See attached flier)
