Most people don’t think about singing when they think about revolution. But The Singing Revolution is an astounding account of Estonia's successful revolt against an extremely oppressive Soviet regime, brought about by thousands of ordinary people united by their love of music and freedom.
"Imagine the scene in 'Casablanca' in which the French patrons sing 'La Marseillaise' in defiance of the Germans, then multiply its power by a factor of thousands, and you've only begun to imagine the force of 'The Singing Revolution'." -Matt Seitz, NY Times
Following the film several Occupella singer-activists (Bonnie Lockhart, Nancy Schimmel, Hali Hammer, and Betsy Rose) will lead the audience in song, followed by a discussion of the film and the issues it raises for the present time.
Sponsored by the BFUU Social Justice Ctee as part of our Conscientious Projector Film Series for the 99%
Suggested donation $5-$10. No one turned away.
Wheelchair accessible.
