One Demonstrator Arrested During Occupation of Vacant Bank in Santa Cruz

by Bradley Stuart (bradley [at] riseup.net)
On November 30th, Santa Cruz Police arrested a demonstrator named Joe on Water Street along the Post Office, while other activists were beginning the occupation of a vacant bank at 75 River Street in Santa Cruz. No witnesses knew why Joe was arrested, but he was later charged with "interfering with an officer", and bailed out of jail for $100. While arresting Joe, the police made sure that he was not able to pass his video camera or phone to bystanders. Furthermore, his video camera and phone were not returned to him after he was bailed out of jail.

Nice to see the local police doing their job in a professional manner.
by (a)
right. they did a great job. like when they arrested that kid in the photos for no reason, then couldn't think of anything to charge him with so slapped him with 'obstruction of a police officer', and broke his wrist in the process. great job pigs. the liberals still love you
"i saw him moving cones that were diverting traffic from turning left on water and river. he then started running away when the police came to stop him. they eventually pinned him to the ground after a chase through water st, he then started screaming 'i did nothing wrong and im not resisting arrest'. Can you arrest someone for moving police cones?"

The answer to that is yes.

So... moving a police cone is such a crime that it takes 2 cops to get that violent guy under control cause he is such a threat to society? and his phone and camera had nothing to do with it? Only thing I have to say... It must be really painful for the cops to have such big sticks and such a small dicks.

I remember when cops (and firemen) used to brave and heroes.
Now they're lazy, fat, filthy pieces of shit (mostly pigs) that are only looking for personal and dept. $$$ and power.
I counted 5 pigs, 1 piglet (in light blue) and a back up car behind. Figure that out per hour, Mayor / conservative tax payer.
Maybe they should have considered the cost of 'Engaging'. Was it really worth it to hassle this guy and spend all that money? He was prob a pretty seriuos criminal and just had on a discuise. The real question is, "Who is creating the prob and why? $$$ ?
The Squealers don't like it when they're non-violent. They're really not trained for that kind of "pussy shit' (they won't even fight) from their 'stint' in the military that most were in before .
Money Grubbing Pigs.
Oink !

While I support the occupation of vacant buildings, particularly empty banks for better use. I am confused if this was passed at SC OWS GA?

If not, while I think it is a brave action. It may take away from the entire democratic process of the occupy movement. In short, if it was not passed at the GA it may affect the movement in ways yet to be seen.

Is OSC in consensus supporting this action? I realize there are many factions of OWS all over the world.

But part of what makes OWS special, what makes it work, is many different people and groups getting together and working in consensus together. If every faction just goes and does their own thing, the entire occupy movement falls apart... The whole idea doesn't work. We go back to where we were. Working in small sub groups on different single issues...or in different ways. I hope I am wrong.

I hope I am wrong and that the Occupy Santa Cruz GA is on board with this action, I would like to see that. As well as the larger OWS movement.

Stay safe.
