Occupy Oakland, Day 12, First Morning of Looming Forcible Eviction by Police, 10/21/11: photos
The city of Oakland served the first notice to vacate to occupiers in Oscar Grant Plaza on the evening of October 20th. With occupiers vowing, "We're not going anywhere!" at that night's General Assembly, no forcible eviction came to be, perhaps to avoid messiness with a wedding scheduled for the amphitheater in the plaza today. This morning, it was largely business as usual in the plaza, with the kitchen offering hot meals to the hungry and occupiers going through their early day routines. Occupation committees did gather throughout the afternoon to discuss various strategies and contingencies for dealing with a possible eviction tonight. At 4pm today, the city handed out a second similar notice telling occupiers that they could remove their belongings, but threatening that occupiers would face arrest if they violate the notice.
