Hella Queer Oakland March To Disco Is Averted Due To Discrimination!
Hella Queer Oakland March to the Uptown is diverted back to Occupy Oakland.
The march started late last night at the Occupy Oakland encampment at 14th and Broadway, made it's way north and circled back to Telegraph to approach the Uptown. Slogans chanted were; "We're here, we're queer, we're fabulous, don't fuck with us! We're here, we're queer, we're fabulous, we'll fuck you up!" DJs at Oscar Grant plaza were amazing. I left because I don't really think I appreciate the Uptown. Some time later at the plaza, I had had enough music and was approaching a homeward vector when I noticed many protesters make their way back to the plaza. Apparently a handicapped person with a cane was asked to leave the Uptown, and a person with a certified seeing eye dog was turned away, so an exiting protest was devised.

From what I can gather from your post, you heard that the march chose to turn around in solidarity with the two people who were told (presumably by pigs) that they couldn't be in uptown. Is that correct? I'm guessing that the disco was located in the middle of the uptown area? Otherwise it doesn't make sense that an alternate route wasn't found.
Just so you know, "averted" has the opposite connotation of what you want to convey: it means that something you dislike was prevented from happening.

the uptown is a venue in oakland on telegraph avenue.
the doorpeople at the uptown denied entry to two people with disabilities, one with a walking stick and the other with a service dog.
many people who had gone inside to the hella gay dance party in the uptown gathered and returned back home to oscar grant plaza shortly after this message was shared.

If what they say is true (i have no reason to doubt it), people from all over and all orientations and disabilities should come tgether to shut down the Uptown (It's the name of a bar in the gentrifying neighborhood with the same name) until the discriminating doorperson gets fired and the owner unequivocally says they will not discriminate agaisnt disabled people ever again. Occupy Uptown! End discrimination!
